Right Here, Right Now.

Have you ever thought about the events in your life which were required for you to be here, now? Have you taken a moment to really examine where you are? I’m talking big picture here. Let me break it down. We are all on a rock, surrounded by a vacuum, protected by 62 miles of atmosphere. 62 miles, think about that…The average commute is currently 41 miles and is 66% of the distance to space. That 62 miles not only keeps us from being vacuumed up by a cosmic Hoover, but it also prevents us from being air fried by our only heat source. You guessed it, that big orb in the sky, 4.5 billon years old and 91.7 million miles away. Boy, I hope it stays lit and heat is only one of its functions we are dependent on. Now, how about temperature? What temperature range can sustain life on the planet? Let me help, it’s -15 to 122 Celsius, or 5 to 251 degrees Fahrenheit. And before you start, I’d like to clarify this is for life, not humans. If you only consider humans in our natural state the range significantly narrows to 36 to 42 C, or 96 to 108 F. Next, I’d like to touch only one of the elements that are required to support human life. Water! We are comprised of 60% water and you can make it about 3 days without it. Only 0.5% of water on the planet is fresh and that’s for 7.9 billion people.

Finally, some simple observations:

  1. There’s no where for us to relocate to
  2. Our existence is in a continuous state of delicate balance
  3. We’re not in control of the planet

So the next time you’re bent about something, take a few minutes to reflect on the right here, right now. Maybe this exercise can help you pay attention to the moments that comprise your day and ultimately guide you down the path which is your life. No one is coming to save us and it will be over before you know it. Might as well act like it.
